I suppose when I say "Times flies when you're having fun," I'm referring to the specific brain waves that your neurons produce when you are in a deep state of play. That's what I hope we create!

I see this from a slightly different angle, since I work within learning and development, but within business and adult staff training. However, I think that our experiences within both fields have some similarities.

I'm sure you know that one element of remembering is repetition. Another is the impact an event had on you. Of course children's brains don't store every memory from their early ages, but I think repetition and memorable experiences form the back bone of the ones they do. We mostly remember that favourite toy or the big events like birthdays.

From the Free Rangers Welton perspective, there's repetition from doing things regularly, like the events around the fire pit and bell tent that my son tells me so much about. Then there's the "unusual" events like being let loose with an axe for the first time!

I think, compared to other early years nurseries, these have the opportunity for getting wedged in a child's mind than other nurseries. I have very few memories of my nursery years, from what I remember there was nothing "special" about it, just a church hall and some indoor play equipment of the type I had at home.

And just to placate you and your fear that you are losing your marbles, it's been proven time and time again that the human memory is an extremely fallible machine and cannot be trusted... are you sure your friend's memories are accurate? ;-)
